I have ADD (Attention Defiste Disorder) Yes, its a real thing. I have struggled with maintaining focus all my life. Keeping focus is harder for some people, more than others. I thought I'd share some ways to help you improve your focus.

1. Unplug Get rid of as many distractions as you possibly can. Silent your phone. (NOT ON VIBRATE, OFF, OR DONT DISTURB) If you are working on a laptop close out social media and your email. Try to work in a space with little too no distractions.

2. Prepare Your Brain to Focus
Let your body and mind find stillness before you begin your work. Find a quiet place, sit in a tall comfortable sitting position. Take a few deep inhales and exhales. In through your nose and out through your mouth. Bring awareness/attention to your chest. Feel your chest rising and falling on each breath as you breathe in and out of your nose. Do this for about 5-8 minutes or until you feel focused and calm. If you want to cultivate focus practice attention through meditation.

3. Doodle or Listen to Music
If I am listening to a lecture I just doodle. It helps me stabilize my mind and keeps me at an optimal level of focus. Doodling aids in cognitive performance and recollection. Listening to music does not help me no matter if the music has words or not. Music only distracts me. Some people find it easier to focus on their thoughts with music. If you have never tried music or doodling to help you focus, give it a shot.

4. Take short breaks
After focusing hard and for long periods our mind gets tired and even more distracted. Give yourself short 10-15 minute breaks then come back to your project starting the steps over again.

These are just some tricks I use to improve my focus. How do you stay focused?

I just got back from my mini-vacation from Port Aransas I had a great time and took some much needed time off. Now its time to get back to the grind. I thought I'd share ways that help me get back into the swing of things.

1) Hydrate
You are probably a bit dehydrated when you come back from vacation. Maybe from flying, drinking alcohol, sitting on the beach. So it is important to dring tons of water when you come home.

2) Exercise
Get back to it! Try to work out every single day when you get back from vacation for at least 5 days straight. Go to yoga, do home workouts, or go to the gym. Sweating is apart of detoxing and it will help you get your body and mind back on track. Exercising is a great tool to help you get back to feeling "normal".

3) Get Your Nutrients
Eat foods that are rich in fiber, leafy greens, and fruits. Eat more of a plant-based diet. Help your body recalibrate. This will help you feel the benefits of the hydration, and help you get in all the nutrients that you may be missing.

4) Sleep
Preparing, traveling, being on vacation, takes a lot of energy. Make sure you are getting enough sleep. Maybe start that bedtime routine you've always aspired to begin.

What tips do you have for getting back to the grind after vacation?

5 Ways to be More Productive

Learn simple and easy ways to be more productive. Being a Yoga Teacher and Yoga Trainer is my full-time job. The majority of my time is spent lesson planning and advertising.  These are the way I stay productive.

1. Write it Down
This one is pretty obvious, but having a to-do list is a great way to keep you focused. I start by picking 3 things that I must get done during the day and everything else is just a bonus.
Having a planner helps because sometimes just the digital list doesn't work. When you write you're list down you are more likely to get it done. Having a planner helps me plan out my day, weeks, and month ahead of time.

2. Fouse on One Thing
There is no way we can do a million things at once. Our brain is not capable of working on two tasks. If you want to be productive do one task at a time.

3. Eliminate Distractions
My phone is my number one distraction. When I have my phone next to me, I am tempted to check my social media. Sooner or later I have just waisted 10 minutes. Figure out what distracts you from getting work done and eliminate it!

4. Keep your Workspace Clear
Organize/clean/clear/cleanse your workspace . Cluttery and mess create a disorganized brain. It's hard to focus your brain. Organize paper, cords, pens, and draws. Do what you need to do to keep your space clear.

5. Take breaks
Give yourself time to breathe. You don't have to power through your day. Giving yourself breaks helps you stay balanced. Give your mind time to relax even if it's just for 10-15 minutes. Go outside, stretch, drink some tea, eat and move.

These are the ways I stay productive. How do you stay productive?

I don't like feeling rushed in the morning, nor scrambling around trying to get everything done. This is how I save time in the morning to make sure I get everything done promptly.
Night Before:
1. Write the next day's to-do list
When you plan out the following day you will have less on your mind when trying to fall asleep.
2. Pack your bag, or your lunch
You don't want to spend your day running around making sure you have everything for work.
3. Check the forecast & Pick out your outfit
Checking the forecast will help you pick your outfit but also plan your commute.
4. Shower before bed
I shower before bed. I like to go to sleep clean. Showering before I go to bed gives me more time to get ready for the day and more time to sleep in.
5. Go to bed at the same time every night
This will help you feel more refreshed in the morning and focused.

Morning:

1. Don't Hit snooze
Get in the habit of getting out of bed when the alarm sounds. Hitting snooze only makes you more sleepy. Step away from the snooze button you will have a more efficient day.
2. Let the sun in!
When sunlight hits your eyes in the morning you this helps you wake up. It tells your brain its time to wake up.
3. Self-Care
Drink your tea coffee and incorporate some movement and gentle stretching. Maybe even do a short meditation
4. Ignore your phone and T.V.
Don't get distracted. Get ready for work.
5. Set a time to leave the house
Each day you will leave the house at ___o'clock. Set an alarm if it helps.
6. Make time for breakfast
Even if it's it yogurt, a shake, or cereal. Make time to eat.

It might sound like a lot... But its worth it! How do you save time in the morning?
